7 - Yoga Day with Bob Waters
As this was my first ever yoga day, I have to admit to feeling slightly apprehensive beforehand. However, although quite strenuous, it was really enjoyable, and certainly nothing to worry about. The teacher, Bob Waters, was helpful, encouraging and observant, and had an ability to get us to realise our potential without exceeding our limits, which was quite an achievement in a class which seemed quite varied in terms of experience and ability. The morning session started with a short introduction by Bob, followed by some familiar, fundamental poses such as standing in Tadasana, for example, which were explored quite thoroughly before moving on to more complex and challenging postures. I recognised most of these, but in many cases the approach to the pose was so different to what I was used to that I didn’t know where we were going until we got there, and that kept things interesting! After a break for lunch we did some back bends (for digestion), followed by a few sitting poses, and, as it would have been a sin not to, inversions. At this point I could definitely feel the benefit of the work done in the morning. I even managed one or two poses quite comfortably that I’d never felt able to attempt before. This, for me, was what made the day such a positive experience. As well as allowing more time to build up to each pose, doing yoga for a whole day makes you ‘bendier’! I really enjoyed my first yoga day, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone who enjoys yoga and feels they would like to progress a bit further. Thanks Tessa (Cornish) for organising the day, and also for persuading me to go. Andy Watt |
